Agreed the hits are harder in the NFL but the reason for that is the pads which allow them to do so with out them they would never attempt such hits.

Though you still get some pretty big hits In Rugby League which is much more like American Football than Rugby Union, just youtube "Rugby League" and see what I mean.

American football is still the ultimate team sport. Name another where if your teammates don't all do their job, you could get paralyzed.

Hockey and rugby are tough, yes, but like it was said the speed and momentum created in the collisions in the NFL are not equaled in any other sport. And the pads make you feel invincible, hence you play and hit harder. The first American footballers didn't have the modern protective gear we have now, and they still played the game, their careers just didn't last as long. And the average guy playing professional football back then was much smaller.

throw a 350 lb center onto a rugby team and see what would happen. then put a 6'5 230 lb wide reciever in there too, and see what would go down. i love american football, dont ask me why, i just do. its just a great game!

Probably never very big, altho I read that Giants/Dolphins game over in I believe London sold out in hours.

Having played HS football and "unorganized" rugby in college, I must disagree Nesbitt. The equipment in football, particularly the helmet, lets you hit more than twice as hard. If you were to hit in rugby like you do in football without the pads, there would be fatalities weekly. Rugby is def a tougher sport in some ways, but the sudden impact collisions of college and pro football is unparalleled. I'm shocked watching my home NFL team practice their freakin helmets dont shatter......

American ''football' is just shitty. try get those guys to play a proper game of rugby, withouth the mountainous pads, and throwing forward, they would fucking crumble.
