Well well. I'm mean am I?
Its hard to ignore the fact that over and over again in society as more people come of age they start to have an interest in music.
The problem is two fold -
#1 the first exposure they get is mass media , whether its tv or radio and the like. 99% of bands in that medium are just watered down copies of an original. The original isn't marketable enough for twelve year old morons so they dress the copies up and put 'em in front of dumb kids who eat it up. ie. every band ever played on the radio and billed as "punk". NO exceptions.
# 2 - twelve year olds are stupid. NO exceptions.

Now , this doesn't include or excuse any fucking asshole douchefuck over the age of sixteen who likes either one of these bands. Those motherfuckers are just plain in the way of progression. Its the same dickheads that buy into uggs and bluetooth and any other shithead thing they see on tv. Its a major problem in the human condition. People are never taught that they can make their own way. You can bet that most parents of kids who like these bands are just grown versions of their stupid kids. Saying things like, "when I was your age - which probably was just a few years ago cause they had kids when they were nineteen - Nirvana was my band. " Little did they know it was people like them who became fans of Nirvana years after their first release on Subpop because they signed to Geffen and just like I said , every fucking asshole all of a sudden thinks they found some 'new" band when they had been around for years and no one cared or knew who they were. Take a fragile,fucked up kid from now where and tell him that now he is the voice of a generation and what do you think will happen?
So , in closing , yes I have an opinion on such matters , its what I do for a living.
Besides , asking which of these two bands I like better is like asking me - what do I like better?, three cocks up my ass or three cocks in my mouth.

went and listened to nickelback cuz i thought maybe i hadn't given them a fair chance...haha well...i'll stand firm in my belief that they are the most generic crap playing on the radio these days. i could write a nickelback song but it would make me want to shoot myself...coldplay on the other hand are like the modern-day Beatles ;)

I like Coldplay better than Nickelback, but the only reason I voted for Nickelback is one damn song---and its stuck in my head for the past several months now.
But my honest opinion is, I'll listen to Pink Floyd and Moody Blues(same of music, if you think about it, just different types), James Marshall Hendrix, Eagles, Janis Joplin, Metallica, Korn, Slipknot, Audioslave and more over both of these bands.
