This started way before Constantine and the Council that barely voted Jesus' immortality and godhood and Christianity around 390 Anno Domini. Constantine was himself a pagan. But, he was beginning to have problems with the Christians who were getting more than restless when the guards were beginning to jail them as Nero had, and Ciaphus, a Jewish priest, whom had Jesus crucified when he was alive 300 some years before.

No one said Man HAD to be ruled, and in Christianity, your not being ruled. Your being given a "choice." That's what being born with "Free Will" is all about, is making choices. The choices are yours to make. Regardless of what choice you make, whether you use rough TP, or smooth TP, or drive a new car or used car, or choose to be Buddhist or Catholic or Islamic, it's your choice. That's what it's all about. That's why your here to begin with, to see which choices you make, and ALL Choices you make are recorded, whether you want to believe that or not.

As far as the after life is concerned, yes there is an after life. About this Life though, this is one big "University of Learning," and everything your writing and typing is a new learning experience also, whether you wish to believe that or not. You learn new things everyday. What is the learning tool you use that people misconstrue as knowing things? They say they learn with their brain. Biggest misnomer ever in the History of Man.

1) Your soul is the learning tool you learn everyday things with and school classes with also
2) Your brain is the implement with which the soul applies the knowledge to everyday life.
3) You transcend to a higher form of energy and/or power when you ascend to the next level, or reach the next dimension.
4) When your husk dies,(body) your soul transfers to the afterlife where your knowledge and learning abilities will be measured by what you have learned.
5) In that, the "choices you have made" are the main decisive factors of your Life.

why does man have the need to be ruled?? jesus was the "king of kings" living in the "kingdom" of heaven, and we must obey our great ruler for eternity or face punishment for it. why cant there be life where you worship nobody or nothing and just live a life full of what you think is good and humane? why must a system of superiority continue from life into the afterlife? we have a heirarchy down on earth that nobody can deny (me myself being classified as lower middle class) and to think that there is one after we die is just so god damn discouraging. my belief in something other than christianity has nothing to do with that, however. it has to do with a decision made by constantine that forever changed the lives of people on this earth. the start to the political influence on the one thing people would obey no matter what: religion.

The only reason people don't understand christianity to its fullest, greed is, because
1) A lot of it is in riddles for a reason,
2) Those riddles will be made known to us when the time is right or when we are ready
3) A lot have already been made known to us, most of us just haven't been paying attention to learn them, that's all.

It's the same as with any other religion. You'll know "it" or reach the top transcendent level when your ready. Not before, not until, only when your ready and it's deemed your ready, whatever "it" is. Whether it be a deity or a man claiming to be a deity. It all depends on the religion.
