I agree with everything you guys are saying. I guess what gets to me is it sounds like people are a broken record complainging about gas. Something needs to be done, and if anyone who complains about the gas prices doesn't vote they're apathetic whiners.
thank you Lyle.
Kudos.
A direct line can be drawn from the greed and lobbying of oil companies, the price of oil, and the cost of Ring Dings and tomatoes at the local market.
The oil companies are totally and completely at fault here, and that's that. Most issues aren't this simple...this one is. We are all up against an oil cartel that is more ruthless than the mob in S. Boston.
The main reason for inflation right now is gas prices. Anything that is shipped costs more. Most of the reason for the increase is market speculation, not "supply and demand." Another thing to consider is that the cost of gas in Britain has a much smaller impact on the economy, given that Britain is MUCH smaller than the US in terms of space that has to be covered via driving. It's a very urban country, very concentrated. The impact of high gas prices there is much less for that reason alone. The same is true of France, Germany, or any EU country.
Oil companies are reaming us, with help from Washington. And it's fucking up the entire economy, not just reducing driving. Home heating oil, for example, is something that you have to buy when the weather turns cold. Getting sanctimonious about the need for people to drive less totally misses the point. This is about a small group of people financially raping a nation of 330 million people.
Look at the increase in the cost of a barrel of oil over the last twenty years, and compare it to any other industry or resource out there. Look at all the help the Republicans, and some Dems, offer the most profitable industry in history.
We are being fucked over, no two ways about it. A popular concern isn't always incorrect. In this case, the populists are correct.
Time to nationalize the oil companies, like Venezuela.
Babies black balloon makes her fly, almost fell into that hole in her life.
Gas isn't the only factor in food. Crops are a major factor. When the whole gas price thing hit farmers jumped on the bio diesel wagon and started making fuel corn instead of food corn. Not only that, but other crop owners like Wheat, rice, soy, and pretty much everything else started making ethanol producing corn. That is gas price related, but I separate that because it's a product of people not looking at the whole picture.
Beyond gas as well we have the major outsourcing problem. It's the whole mentality of "I want more for less."
I'm all for doing something about it. It just amazes me that it's taken this much for people to notice what's going on, and even though things are so bad there are still people covering their eyes and ears. We have it so good throughout the 80's and 90's, and in two administrations it got ruined.
this is true...
but, the price of food is going up because it costs money to transport food from the farm(or from overseas) to your supermarket...
I'm not trying to wave a flag here, I'm just saying, I live on my own (no, I'm not the only one) and i see this every time I go to the grocery store, gas station, pay rent, cell phone, insurance, car/etc....
it sucks all around KW..
There's no escape.
We all need help right now.
hey...you made me fall off my CHAIR!
Bomb them all and let GOD sort 'em out! :}
The rate of inflation isn't a steady thing. My point is that inflation is increasing at an alarming rate as well. Look at the price on everything else. Even food is now going the way of gas. We're getting fucked as citezens.
What I'm trying to say is yes gas is outrageous, but it's not the only problem. It's just the most publicised.
