I love Godzilla, Queen rocks (Bicycle Race is the funniest song ever), Flash Gordon kicks ass... I had to buy that as soon as it came out on DVD a few months ago (I made my gf watch it, she thought it was super cheesy, but I still love it). FLASH.... AAAHHHH! Saviour of the Universe!
Also, overall I feel you Killer that the state of film is shit... nothing but remakes and adaptations. Few show me anything new. Although I saw 21 tonight and enjoyed that thoroughly. I liked There Will Be Blood, and I fucking love No Country For Old Men! Javier is 110% bad-ass motherfucker. "Dude, your bone is sticking out of your arm."
You and I, sir, are in total agreement. That dragon is so fucking kick mother fucking ass! And don't be too down on the state of film today. You're around, ready to exert your artistic influence. And somehow great movies are still made. Last year was a good one, methinks.
The werewolf at the end of American Werewolf in London blows me away, too. The way the have a hard snapping sound when it bites, and of course the Baker creature is just so fierce looking. Walking around Piccaddilly Circus, biting a dude's head off and stopping a double decker bus. Those eyes.
One last thing. You may remember a cult movie Heavy Metal. When I was a kid I spent many nights trying to stay up until like 3am when HBO would show it. It was never on during the fucking day. Anyway, I saw an ad for South Park that seems to indicate that they did a take off of that movie. I'm not a big SP fan, but that might be damn funny.
Oh man, Dragonslayer haha that is anothe killer film. To this date my favorite Classic dragon monster design.
I am still amazed that that is Max von Sydow as ming. A friquin swedish guy turning into such a drastically different character.
Yeah, new films are so money obsessed. That's why there are so many remakes now. Few studios and producers are willing to put their neck out their for soemthing to the side of the tracks no matter how interesting it may sound.
Such a fan of Godzilla. Remember Dragonslayer? I fucking loved the dragon from that. The effects were perfect. Krull was good, too. And American Werewolf in London. As for Flash Gordon and Highlander, I have to go with Highlander, too, even though I dig the cinematography of Flash Gordon so much. And Ming the Merciless causing explosions and "fire hail" on Earth just because he's such a dick...no other reason. Like Dick Cheney.
I'll take cheesey over derivative. Cookie cutter movies must die.
I gave ming's facial hair to one of my recent monster designs and it's going great haha. My boss caught it and we both laughed our asses off. I don't care if flash gordon is cheesey , and over the top. I miss movies like that. Where the hell are the Barbarellas and Krulls of this era?
Gotta go with Highlander. That was the first time I ever heard Queen, and have good memories of watching that and eating cap'n crunch all saturday with Godzilla and star wars.
So true. I remember listening to the soundtrack when in high school. We'd listen to it in the car on the way. There can be only one! Freddie Mercury was a real artist, as opposed to most musicians today. You have to really search nowadays to find quality music, actual artists. It's sad. I don't even care if you're all that good, just have some edge and be evocative, that's the key.
It's like Queen never held back. Whatever soundtrack they did, concert, whatever, they put everything into it. And just from a film freaks point of view, look at how important those soundtracks are to each movie. They're like videos for the Queen soundtrack.
Here we are! Born to be KINGS. We're the princes of the Universe !"
-Fucking Outstanding.
Its crazy cuz these 2 songs are so cheez but queen rocks so fuking hard, highlander soundtrack shredds
You did this? Oh, man, I'm sorry. I may have even seen it. In my defense, Highlander was on cable this morning and I got hit with that amazing soundtrack. I was compelled by a higher power, the television, it wasn't plagiarism, I swear!
Consider it an homage to your earlier work.
It's also comforting to know that so many people dig Queen.
Omg i did this battle!!!
but good to bring back cuz its awesome!!!!!!
