When I refer to the term emo I am referring to the "trend". A lot of these kids do it to fit in with a group, not because they are artists (I was never an "emo" kid, but I knew lots of different people in HS and remember this stuff really well). Then, their friends attitude of feeling sorry for themselves for petty reasons starts rubbing off. "My mom did not buy me the 360 I wanted for my birthday, she doesn't love me." That may be a bit exaggerated depending on the person but...
Mosts artists view the world in a different way than a more logical person. They view it in a romantic, melancholy way which will make them sad, but not necessarily emo.
LOL- take some of what I said or did last night with a grain of salt. Jack and coke was very good to me.
Good battle, Chloe!
I think "emo" has always been around, particularly among artists or people who fancy themselves artists, only the name and aesthetics change. I think most emo people are tourists in faux misery. They wear it like the latest fashion trend. But I think that most grow out of it. People who are genuinely clinically depressed don't spend so much time cultivating a "look." Unless poor hygiene, sleep disorders, a dead libido, drug and alcohol abuse, inability to focus, ennui, suicidal ideation and boredom are "in" these days.
The "helicopter parent" thing is happening with people in their twenties, even among successful people. It just makes sense to them to have their parents with them when they negotiate a salary or even to get a job.
The idea to me is nightmarish. Psychologically, it really had/has to mess up a lot of kids...some of whom are now adults.
Their parents babying them is a big part of the reason why they are whiners. The emos are not just spawned out of nowhere.
DAMN!
From my experience, the 'helicopter parents' are almost necessary, considering the things they get into when unaccompanied.
But the whining is definitely more annoying, and spawned the entire 'emo' movement. Thus whining/emo = win!
Scoreless little league games? Oh, yeah, this is the lamest generation ever. Yuppies look silent and dignified next to them.
