Sucks Or Rules

The first and second movies are so strong, I can't take any of the other movies seriously. Resurrection was surprisingly well-received by some big critics. And my biggest problem with Alien3 is the way they dumped "Newt." They didn't have a place for her in the story, so they had her die in stasis. That's really weak. She's a very important character from the second movie...who she is and what she represents.

She survived the aliens in Aliens (Newt did), but she couldn't survive the lack of creativity on the part of the writers regarding what to do with her character in a prison colony.

This needs to be discussed in person, however, so next time you're in Boston we'll hit a shitty bar and talk movies. I listen to your opinions, K_W, because you're passionate about film, too, as art and not just a way to distract the kids. I just analyze the shit out of movies, out of admiration.

My girlfriend went to see Alien with her ex-husband back in 1979, before everyone knew about the alien exploding out of that poor fellow's chest. When she saw that scene she stood up in the theatre and insisted on leaving. It just freaked her out so bad she wanted to get out of there. Movies are wonderful.

She's fine now, and is no longer married to a firefighter. Instead she lives with me, a mentally ill hack writer with very little income. Hmmm, maybe there is something wrong with her after all. Her wits were scared out of her.

Totally agree wolf. Alien3 got such bad word of mouth when it came out, I thought it was brilliant. I think people were disappointed it wasn't a blast fest like Aliens, ya know no guns and all. Alien3 was really good, then they made Resurrection which was so completely awful I couldnt stomach anymore. In my mind it's a trilogy and the others don't exist.....
