It's a tough one this, the heart says Xbox 360, but the head wins the battle.
The PS3 is better simply because of it's reliability record.
The 360 has a 40% failure rate and I don't care if M$ have a 3 year warranty, you still have to spend months without your console.
Then theres the potential that the cell processor has. This time next year there'll be some killer titles around which the 360 simply won't be able to render.

I have had both and I can honestly say without a doubt that the ps3 is not all its cracked up to be. I got my 360 at launch, and I have had not one problem with it. I play it almost everyday, and not once has it froze up or gae me the "rrod". I know a few friends who have had that problem, but they had their system in a really bad spot. I also purchased a ps3 at it's launch because of all the hype, and was seriously dissapointed. To take a quote straight from Sony, "Next Gen doesn't start until we say it does", that has got be the most arrogant bunch of bullshit I have ever heard. First of all. I had been playing games with bad ass graphics for a whole year already before I got my PS3. Then I get a few games for my PS3, and the graphics are alot better on my 360. I confirmed this, not only by getting the same games on both systems, but reading countless articles and comparisons online stating the same thing. There were two that I know of that were actually better but they were on the 360 a while before they came to PS3 which means they had time to polish it. They were Fight Night Round 3, and E.S.4.Oblivion. The PS3 has exactly the same home screen as the PSP which seems really cheap to me. They seriously couldn't think of anything better than shit. I wasn't fond of it on my psp either, why the fuck would I want it on a 600 dollar fucking system. So I used my PS3 for watching movies for a while maybe two months or so. I can say that blu ray isn't all that. I have a samsung 1080p tv and it is a beaut, but Blu Ray does not look any better than HD DVD. I will give blu ray the sound edge though. But it is not that huge of a deal. All in all I sold the piece of shit 3 and kept my 360 and I have tons of badass games to play, and I love it.

I have both consoles

Online Store

XBox Live content is very robust. The amount of movies, TV Series, Games you can download is very good. Not much content. I have downloaded movies from XBox Live Marketplace and found it easy to use. However, it does take about 2 hours to download a HD movie. With XBox Live Marketplace, some movies are downloadable in HD, but in 720P only. Also, only a few are available with Dolby 5.1 Surround, so if you have a great Home Theater system, you may be disappointed. You would do better to rent or buy the movie in HD or Blu-Ray format.

Sony Online store is almost bare. I have downloaded a few movie trailers and they looked great. The only problem is there just isn't much to choose from.

Games
As far as games go, I have only played a handful of PS2 games on my PS3, no PS3 games yet. I cannot make a judgment on that yet. However with Metal Gear Solid and some others coming up, I will be playing those.

Hardware
I play FFXI Online most days and really don't have any issues with my XBox360. I keep it on top of a Floor Speaker so it is out in the open. It stays on for as many as 10 hours at a time and does not overheat. The only problem I have had is that about once every 4-6 months the sound will not work. But all I have to do is reboot and it is fine. The graphics and sound on the 360 are great, no problems. PS3 the graphics and sound are also great, no problems. When it comes down to what the equipment is capable of doing, I would have to say that the PS3 is an incredible piece of equipment. I watch a lot of Bu-Ray movies on my home theater and am totally blown away by the quality of the picture and sound of the PS3 on my home theater. It is an experience that you cannot describe. A few months ago, there was a review in EGM comparing the HD player for XBox 360 and the Blu-Ray for PS3. The review basically said that the HD add-on player for XBox360 was not very good, but the Blu-Ray player for PS3 was a very good player. The other features, many I have not used yet, make the PS3 a better piece of equipment. WiFi, Interfaces for memory sticks and other media, the ability to browse the Internet, upscaling of lower definition movies to a higher definition, and more make this a very advanced piece of equipment.

In closing, I think both consoles are very good, but for different reasons. If you want a great gaming experience with online connectivity like Gears of War, Final Fantasy XI, etc., XBox360 is better simply because there is so much more out there. If you want a superior Home Theater experience, The PS3 is by far superior to the XBox360. If PS3 were to have a comparable online experience with Microsoft, and as many games as are available on XBox 360, I would have to say PS3 would be the better choice. But until then Xbox360 wins.

Both systems are good, but PS3 is better, mostly because its such realistic graphics. The only problem is that it's too damn expensive, so Sony isn't selling nearly as many of them as they expected.

Here's the thing... don't rant or rave... just play whichever system you prefer. For me, that is the 360 for a few reasons:
- the online service is leagues ahead of the other consoles, subscription based or not. To me, the few bucks a month is worth it.
- the game line-up is strong with a good following of third party exclusive titles. The developers use this console as their primary development platform most of the time for a reason.
- Being an adult, semi-over-the-hill gamer, I like the fact that many of the games are oriented towards the adult player, and not just full of pixie-like kiddie characters with big heads.

I lost my console for a month due to the red rings of death, but that never made me reconsider supporting the console. My warranty was extended and I received a free month subscription to Live to make up for it. I still think Bill Gates has the devil on speed-dial, but I don't let that sway my decision... nor do I feel the urge to bash the other systems. For myself and my friends (including my buddy that manages a Sony Store), when you want to kick back with a couple of beers and geek out on games... the 360 is the winner.
